Appreciation

~ Commemorating Embukai concluded with great success ~

On May 3rd (a public holiday), having Aikido Doshu, Moriteru Ueshiba Sensei as the special guest, the embutaikai commemorating Morito Suganuma Shihan’s 55th Anniversary in Kyushu was held at Fukuoka Budokan in Ohori 1-chome, Fukuoka City in beautiful May weather.

As it was Doshu’s first visit to Fukuoka in ten years, I was waiting for him with nervousness as well as excitement.

The opening ceremony included:

  • Opening remarks by Takato Kanado, the organization committee chair
  • Silent prayer to the founder, Morihei Ueshiba Sensei and Kisshomaru Ueshiba Sensei
  • National Anthem
  • Remarks by Katsuhiko Suganuma, the chairman of the event
  • Remarks by the honored guest, Doshu, Moriteru Ueshiba Sensei
  • Remarks by Dojocho, Morito Suganuma

The embus started after that.

The first half started with a children’s embu (5 years old to Junior high school students) followed by energetic embus by university students.

The second half started with “Hana-no-Aikido” (female performance) followed by embus by dojos overseas.  This year, eight dojos from six countries performed their embus.

The embukai concluded successfully with the congratulatory embu by Doshu, Moriteru Ueshiba Sensei.

Approximately 1500 people joined us including the embu performers and observers.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who helped for the embukai.
