Shoheijuku Newsletter December 2021

Kyudai-Seinan Joint Enbukai

On November 3rd (national holiday), the 49th Kyushu University – Seinan Gakuin University Joint Embukai was held at Tenjin Dojo. This year, it was held without spectators because of COVID-19. We live-streamed the embukai with Zoom and had alumni and those who wish watch the embukai online.

Though we were a little concerned because we had a short period of time for preparation, it was fulfilling and finished with no problem.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the alumni for their cooperation.

Nakatsu Shoheijuku

On Sunday, November 7th, a seminar for Nakatsu Shoheijuku (Tetsuji Abe, Dojo Rep) was held at Imazu Martial Arts Hall. I visited the dojo for the first time in a long time. The number of participants was smaller than usual due to COVID-19 but I felt that both youth and adult members had been practicing well with supple mind.

Yuyukai

On Saturday, November 13th, the 15th anniversary seminar, examination, and embukai for Yuyukai (Tsukasa Yoshida, Dojo Rep) were held at Kakogawa City Martial Arts Hall. Due to COVID-19, the events were held only with the Yuyukai members this time.

The name of the dojo “Yuyukai” came from a phrase in a Chinese classic, Zhuang Zi. “If you are not particular about things, you will be happy all the time. If you are happy all the time, you will have a long life.”

Nazuna Shoheijuku

On Thursday, November 18th, I was invited to Nazuna Shoheijuku directed by Mr. Katsuto Akamine again this year. I heard that it was my 23rd visit. After working out a good sweat as watching beautiful mountains with red leaves, we enjoyed heartful, homemade dishes cooked by the Nazuna staff members.

Thank you very much for allowing seven of us from Fukuoka to visit this year again.

Omuta Dojo 50th Anniversary

The 50th anniversary commemoration event for Omuta Dojo (Takasuke Ishido, Dojo Rep) was held at Omuta Civic Gymnasium on Sunday, November 21st.

Eight nearby dojos joined us. We had the joint practice for the first half and the embukai for the second half. After that, we had the celebration party.

When Akisuke Iwashita Sensei, the original dojo director, kindly allowed me to stay at his house fifty years ago, he gave me a book. I recall that there was a short poem on the surface of the book:

Arigatashi katajikenashi to Asayuu ni
Omoi kuraseba Magakoto no nashi

“If you keep the sense of appreciation day and night, there will be no misfortune in your life.”
